The jury consisted of 18 people: three from the United States, three from Canada, three from the United Kingdom, three from Brazil and six from Argentina.
On the one hand, the international judges at the contest were: Jorge Carrara, Mario Telles and Jorge Lucki from Brazil; Leslie Sbrocco, Andrea Robinson and Lyn Farmer from the United States, Anthony Gismondi, Jaques Orhon and Stuart Tobe from Canada; and Sarah Jane Evans, Tim Atkin and Charles Metcalfe from the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the Argentinian judges were: Pedro Marchevsky (Dominio del Plata), Roberto de la Mota (Mendel Wines), Marcelo Pelleriti (Clos de los Siete), Edgardo del Popolo (Viña Doña Paula), Daniel Pi (Trapiche), Andrea Marchiori (Viña Cobos), Santiago Mayorga (Mendel Wines) and Matías Riccitelli (Fabre Montmayou).
In order to be among the awarded wines, the gathered samples were classified according to:
Red wines: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda, Syrah, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, red blends and other red varieties.
White wines: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Torrontés, Viognier, Pinot Gris, white blends and other white varieties.
Rose wines: Sparkling wines, dessert wines and reinforced wines.
Each of these categories was classified according to the bottle price range as follows:
From 6 to 9,99 dollars, from 10 to 19,99 dollars, from 20 to 50 dollars and more than 50 dollars. The judges, both international and national, were divided in six work teams, tasting all the wines without seeing them. Every wine in the contest was tasted by 2 different judges’ teams. All wines were assessed with a 20-points scale, so the wines between 18,6 and 20 points achieved gold medal, those between 17,6 and 18,5 points got silver medal, those between 16,6 and 17,5 got bronze medal and the wines between 0 and 16,5 points did not receive any prize.
In order to select the Trophy, the last work day the judges tasted the wines that had achieved gold medal and, among them, they chose the wines that apart from getting gold medal, had had a superior performance reaching the Trophy award.
